A Different World

Today I’m still excited to see all the news about LeBron James, arguably the greatest basketball player in history, breaking every media outlet with the launch of his new public school, iPromise, Akron, Ohio. I feel like I cannot sleep because I so enveloped in the huge impact that this will make in his hometown! I feel like I myself am not doing enough to influence my community. To see such excellence in philanthropy put on display is amazing! There are so many things that seem to be going wrong within our world that when I witness positive things happening, they feel so foreign, so rare and so uncommon.

Right now our world is so shamefully divided. I don’t think that I’ve seen this much obvious dissension in my life. However, I can recognize people going out of their way to show genuine love and appreciation for one another's individual differences. I am reminded often to focus on the positives, to recall the wins but I grow weary when I hear of the senseless loss of life at the hands of law enforcement, unfair policies carried out by government or when I see viral accounts of abuse and terror.

The negative just feels heavier leaving its imprint on my heart and me feeling personally scarred. Understanding in our culture it is standard to see the oppressed in our world dejected by institutionalized prejudices. Seeing everyday the reality that the strong weigh down the weak is disheartening and leaves one feeling helpless. Until I realize that there are real people willing to keep pressing forward to repair what is broken. It’s like for ever racist, oppressive comment or demoralizing ideology I identify within society, there are so many more acts of random kindness and favorable strides being tracked to enrich our world. That keeps me able to hope in spite of humanity’s woeful condition. Somehow I hold on to the faith that one day all of this will make sense. And if not make sense, that it will all be worth it!

In Romans 8:18-21, the Apostle Paul tells us of a future glory stating,

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.”

I believe that Christ will make a comeback to fulfill His promise to wipe every tear from our eyes. Death, sorrow, and pain will all cease. All of the former injuries and injustices will pass away and He will make all things new. (Read Revelation 21). The bloodshed of Jesus Christ is all my hope and peace. I’ll pray daily for the hearts of men believing that they will yield to him as Lord and risen Savior. My hope is that they will allow him in but my greater hope is on an entirely different world. Selah.

Let us pray:

Father,

You will never sit idle while your children suffer. Give us a hope that does not waver. Give us faith to trust you day by day by day. We are beggars, desperate for you to rescue us. Let your kingdom come in power and in might. You are our hero.

Amen!
